Biological Age Outperforms Chronological Age in Predicting Dementia Risk, Study Finds
New research from Zhengzhou University reveals that biological age—a measure of internal bodily function—may be a more accurate predictor of dementia risk than chronological age. The study, published in Neurology, suggests accelerated internal aging significantly elevates dementia susceptibility, even in outwardly younger individuals.
Over 6 million Americans currently live with dementia, according to a February 2025 National Institutes of Health report. The findings underscore the importance of biological age tracking for early disease detection and improved understanding of healthspan mechanisms.
